WEDNESDAY,
AUGUST 13:
A very nice
lazy day. Rained lightly all day. Nice North Pacific ambience.
Bill took the truck in to Port Angeles early
in the morning to have the brakes worked on. He could hear the trucks squealing more and more,
and refused to take on the added strain
of the RV until he had them repaired/replaced.
This is the second year in a row that we’ve had to have the brakes
replaced – last year up at Banff. It’s
just very hard on them hauling an 8-ton trailer over and back down the highest
passes in the Rockies. Since Kamloops,
when those pro drivers gave him tips on downshifting in mountain driving, he
hasn’t used the brakes nearly as much, but the damage was done. At
least we know better for future mountain trips.
While he
was doing that, I did a mountain of laundry and made some brownies. We later delivered some to both of our neighbors who
had been so helpful to us when we first got here. Poor Virgil and his wife – he fell some time
ago and really messed himself up and is on pain killers; his wife is too. I’m not sure where their home is, or why they’re
out on the road if they’re not feeling good a good deal of the time. As for Bob & Ann, the Alaskan couple – I guess
their deal is to find a place where they like the climate and pretty much stay
put in the RV or go outside on their lawn chairs. But they don’t really explore an area like we
do hadn’t been to the Hoh Rain Forest,
nor to the coast. And they’ve been here
longer than we have. To each his own!
Fixed
fresh salmon for dinner. Even though
damp, could still fire up the grill. Was
yummy.
