SATURDAY,
AUGUST 2:
Back to
cloudless blue, sunny skies!
Today we
just took it easy. After cleaning up
after a late breakfast, we biked down to a nearby park, Ambleside. A really lovely, quiet place with a dog
beach, a beach walk, and a couple of artists displaying their work. We hung out and ambled (no pun intended) around for quite a
bit.
Now I can say that I've touched the Pacific in the Lower 48, Alaska, & Canada
Is this Vancouver's version of "Give me your tired, your poor . . ."?
Came back and relaxed and rested. In the
late afternoon, Bill took his bike out to ride across the Lions Gate
Bridge. They have a separate path
dedicated to cyclists and walkers, and we’ve seen lots of both each time we
cross over. We considered doing it ourselves,
and saving the hassle (and $$) of driving the truck in & parking it. Not to mention the experience. But, the more I looked at it, the more I felt
that I wouldn’t be able to do it, because of my fear of heights. So Bill did a round trip just “because it’s
there.” In fact, he pedaled all the way
up to Prospect Point, and then turned around.
He loves his new bike – said it’s better than the one that got ripped
off.
Ate
leftover ribs for dinner. Then, around 9:30, we headed over to Ambleside
Park again. There was a big fireworks
display somewhere on the other side of Stanley Park, and we were told that we’d
be able to view them from Ambleside. Well,
in fact, we could only see the very highest ones – the trees from Stanley Park
blocked most of the others. But we’re
still very glad we walked over there. It
was an absolutely lovely evening, and we had stunning night views of LG Bridge
and the city.
Tomorrow will be our last full day here; we
leave for Vancouver Island on Monday
