FRIDAY,
JUNE 20:
Pulled
away from Lake St. Louis around 7:15. So
glad to leave this heat! Has been in the
high 90’s the last couple of days, with just about as high humidity. Yuk.
We’d
decided to go thru Nebraska this trip, as opposed to straight north thru South Dakota,
as neither of us can remember being in the Corn Husker state for a very long
time, if ever. And I’d noticed that
there were a couple of interesting-looking museums right along the route. Since we’re giving ourselves 6 days to reach
Glacier, we’ll have time for wayside stops like that.
Drove
nearly 500 miles. No issues at all,
except the heat, which hit us like a blast furnace every time we stopped. The rolling hills of Western Missouri
gradually gave way to flat prairie. By
the time we reached Grand Island, around 5:00, the flat prairie stretched as
far as you could see.
Found a
KOA RV park just outside of Grand Island, off I-80. We’ve very rarely stayed at KOA campgrounds –
higher prices for amenities we don’t use, not much character. But this was at the right location, at the
right time.
Turned on the A/C full blast, and ordered pizza for dinner (a place
right on the premises.)
With a cold Lime-a-Rita for me, and homemade beer from neighbor Jim E
for Bill, it hit the spot.
We both
read a little, and then early to bed.
Could hear thunder, and then rain, as we lay in bed. Thank You, Lord, for an uneventful day and
good night’s rest on our first day!
